From the 14th till the 19th of November Pacific Place Mall in the capital of Indonesia hosted the Jakarta Fashion Week, where about 60 local designers were bidding to compete with the world’s fashion industry old-timers.

During the six days a colourful show full of bright costumes of the local historical flavour was performed on the catwalk. The local colour could be seen in every costume part.

Apart from the country’s recognition as a fully functional fashion society member, the aim of the event was to promote the local textile industry and development of local designer potential.

The week was also marked with the historical partnership of two neighboring countries, Indonesia and India, having merged two fashion events of these countries. The result of joint efforts by the famous Indonesian designers Sebastian Ganavana and Prio Octaviano and India’s Tarun Tahiliani and Malin Ramani was a charity fashion show at the Gala dinner, supported by Dewi magazine.

Part of the weeks’ proceedings was the Fashion Design Competition, where the winner was awarded an opportunity to study at the Los Angeles’ Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising.

Along with the newcomers, well-known Indonesian fashion houses - Carmanita, Ghea Panggabean, Poppy Dharsono, Stephanus Hamy, Taruna Kusmayadi, Anne Avantie, Oscar Lawalata, Deden Siswanto, Barli and Oka Diputra presented their collections.
